JOSEPH, LIEBER, JOSEPH MEIN, 1544 by Johann Walter  This lullaby is arranged in a gentle 2, lyrics are on back of the beautiful colored cover.  Quintet SSATB, 5 playing scores


KLING GLOCKCHEN traditional German Carol.  This delightful arrangement passes the melody between tenors & soprano while the other parts provide harmonies & bell-like interludes. May be played SA or SAT


KOMMET, IHR HIRTEN (Come, You Shepherds) An old Bohemian folk carol this arrangement builds from duet, to trio where the melody is played in octaves by tenor and bass, and finally matures in a SATB harmonization that will fetch you back to play it again and again.


LORD OF THE DANCE – The music is by Joseph Brackett (1979-1882) and became known as the tune to the old Shaker Hymn ‘Tis The Gift To Be Simple. Geisler’s recorder settin is based on the melody adapted by Sidney Carter and vocal arrangement by David Willcocks.  The melody passes throughout the ensemble.


LULLAY MY LIKING A medieval English Christmas lullaby arranged by Gustave Holst. Each of the five verses express a different mood and alternates with the loveliest of refrains.  Four or 5 parts

O COME ALL YE FAITHFUL Words and melody by J.F. Wades 1711-1786. This version is taken from David Willcocks choral arrangement.  For Octet SSAATTB, score and parts


O HOLY NIGHT – Cantique de Noel lyrics by J.S. Dwight music by A. Adam. A very effective treatment of this beautiful melody with moving triplets in the tenor and bass lines.  The five scores include lyrics of the first verse, remaining verses are on the back page. Intemediate and Up Quintet SATTB


O LITTLE TOWN OF BETHLEHEM – From a traditional English carol arranged by Ralph Vaughn Williams.  This version is unfamiliar to most Americans. SATB op. descant, ,may be played SA or SAT


O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM – Cristoal de Morales lived c. 1500-1553. This is one of the great Spanish piece in this genre, requiring sensitivity, breath control and feeling for Spiritual reality.


O MAGNUM MYSTERIUM – Tomas Luis de Victoria lived 1549-1611. This is most reverent and beautiful music, which dwells upon the mysteries of Christ’s birth.


ONCE IN ROYAL DAVID’S CITY A stately English tune used as the processional that begins Cambridge College’s annual Nine Lessons and Carols Page 1 is SATB or SA or SAT, page 2 is SSAATTB


OVER ALL THE LAND – A traditional Catalonian tune set for recorders after a choir arrangement by Goff Richards.  This is a “Shepherd” song. It comes from the less known Spanish repertoire. Quintet SATTB


OVER THE RIVER NAD THROUGH THE WOODS – American school song. Set for recorders from a charming and catchy choral arrangement by Wendy William.


PATAPAN A traditional French folk carol arranged in an old French style with bagpipe imitations, high-pitched bombardes and a fugue of the tune. SATB with optional percussion.

PEOPLE LOOK EAST – A Besancon Advent Carol.  This is likely another that will be new to many but one that you will continue to play.  Both choral and instrumental arrangements are included. SATB may be played SA or SAT


PRINCE OF LIFE – Cornish miners who came to Grass Valley, CA. to work the deep-down gold mines were hardy men.  They sang their carols in the lusty way they ate and drank!.  SATB but SAT OK


RIU, RIU, CHIU Spanish tune from the Renaissance, Anon. 1556, arr. By Geisler for Quintet SATTB & tambourine  You must be very familiar with this rhythmically catchy, meter-maddening tune.  Applause will follow!


ROCKING (Hajej, Nynjej), Czech carol. This simple, childlike lullaby will win your heart. It is the Eastern European equivalent to Away in a Manger SATB


SANS DAY CAROL (Now the holly bears a berry), Traditional Cornish carol, arranged to take the joyous melody through all parts.  Quintet SATBB, score and parts


SHEPHERD’S CAROL (Shiloh), Early American carol by W. Billings (1746-1800)  You’ve probably played some version on this simple tune if not be sure to add it to you Christmas repertoire.


SONG OF THE BIRDS (El Cant des Aucells), A Spanish carol from Catalonia. Pablo Casals played this tune; it is said, at every performance to publicly acknowledge his Catalonia heritage.  Find out why!


THERE IS A SEASON (…for everything under heaven), tune by Pete Seeger, verse from Ecclesiastes 3: 1-8. This four-part arrangement passes the Seeger melody throughout the ensemble.  Quartet AATB

VERY ENGLISH JINGLE BELLS  This is the Victorian version of the tune, definitely recognizable but harmoniously different…very attractively so. For 4 to 6 players. May be played SA or SAT.
