COOLSMA - fine wood recorders
Made in Utrecht, Holland by highly skilled and experienced craftsmen with a
long tradition of commitment to producing fine recorders.
Because we are professional performers and teachers, we know that there is variation among
wood recorders, so we personally select only the best, checking each for
tuning, attack and tone quality. Then we make any tuning corrections necessary (on
recorders over $75) before presenting it to you for your final inspection. The recorders listed below are 20% off the list price and come with a
2-year warranty. There are three grades of instruments in the line:
Aura Standard - this series is a streamline contemporary
design, with the beginner student in mind. Most are made of pearwood, which has a pleasing
soft warm sound at a reasonable price. Bubinga is a slightly harder wood, light weight and
similar in appearance to rosewood.
Aura Conservatorium - these recorders are Baroque
in style with distinctive turnings and are available in a variety of fine woods; designed
for amateur players of all levels.
Hans Coolsma Solo - these recorders are made with
the extensive hand-fitting, voicing and tuning that the discriminating amateur or
professional player requires. Some of the instruments in the line are reproductions after
Baroque makers, others have extensive turnings and ornamental carvings on them
A special feature of the Coolsma line is the bent neck, available
in the tenor and basses.
This feature is of great help to those with small hands or a short arm stretch. It
makes playing the larger instruments much more comfortable.
